FIGHTING AT PONAPE.
REBELS SHELLED BY WARSHIPS.
(Received 23. 8.30 a.m.) Brisbane, Jan. 23. The German steamer from New Guinea brings news of a rebellion at Ponape. where the rebels have erected fortifications. Two Berman gunboats and two warships from the Eastern station are nn the scene and have commenced to shell the rebels' position.
