The Official Receiver announces that when Carpenter started Business in !~70 he had a capital of £sm. and a partner with £5OO joined him. Bui wilhdiew after losing ail of it. Carpenter then styled his business ■‘( haring Cross Bank.’’ The present deficit totalled £ 1.699.00* >. Carpenter had lost £ 100,000 in a petroleum \enture in Quebec, and £3 ’.t’.Hi in an unsuccessful bicycle r -.i.nt tyre. He invested £hoO.(mm» in railway ventures in Quebec ; £70.000 was expended on options of gold-bear-ing lands in the Transvaal, which are valueless. He lost £16.000 in a venture for making artificial lubber. and £SO.ooo in a metal polish venture.
