STORMS.
ON LAND AND SEA. (Received 16, 9.25 a.m.) Sydney. Jan. 16. Shipping arriving bring reports of mountainous seas. Several instances of slight damage having been done are reported. The heavy rains and floods reported from main districts are now subsiding. On the South Coast several washaways have occurred on the railways. Melbourne. Jan. 16. The storms are abating, hut as a result of the exceptionally heavy rain floods are expected. Nine inches have been recorded since the rain started.
