[PEK PRESS ASSOCIATION. )
Wellington, Jan. 14.
Four seamen on the steamer Kaipara. Thomas Redont, Manuel Emandes, Arthur King, and Tempest Steen, were charged in Court today with wilful disobedience to lawful commands of the chief officer on the run down from Auckland.
While at Auckland these men left the ship, were arrested, and sentenced to three days’ imprisonment.
One of the duties they refused to perform was to keep a look-out. with the result that the voyage down was made without a look-out. The heaviest possible penalty ' s asked for by the prosecution, which emphasised the seriousness of the offence.
Counsel for deiencr said the mm regretted their'act ion, and promised faithfully to serve the company if returned to the ship. Tiie Magistrate said there was nothing in accuseds’ favour. The fact that they risked theb- own lives as well as those of others on hoard was m> f»aiiiation of the oTem-e.
Each of the accused was s< t'tene->-d to two months’ imprisonment.
