BETAVEEN GUARDS AND INSURGENTS.

(Received 14, 8.5 a.m.) New York, Jan. 14

A battle took place at Vascas, Mexico, between the rural guards and the insurgents. The guards presented overwhelmingly superior numbers, nevertheless eighteen insurgents drove them off with heavy losses.

The fight lasted for three hours before the Federals withdrew.

The insurgents buried nine dead bodies before retreating to their mountain stronghold.
