John Bennington, 3t>. single, a plumber by trade, was found hanging to a beam in Kettle Bros.’ eartshed this morning.

COACHING ACCIDENT.

It is reported that the Akaroa coach capsized at Duvauchelles this morning. Mrs. Pyxe, Miss Wrigiit and Constable Maloney were 'njared . Other particulars of the accident are not yet available.

KILLED BY A TRAIN.

Gore, Jan. 9.

An elderly man named -Chas. Grant was killed on Saturday night at Balfour. Deceased was crossing the railway yard from the main street to the station, and being 1 ard of hearing, he did not notice the train. The driver shut down the brakes and whistled, but Grant, thinking to cross the line, failed to get clear and the engine struck him in the back and side with the footplate. He was picked up in a eoinatose condition and taken to ’ umsden, but apparently expired after he was placed in the guards van. Deceased came from Glasgow and had been in New Zealahd 38 years. At the inquest yesterday, a verdict of accidental death, with no blame attachable to anyone, was returned.
