DEFENCE.
THE INSTRUCTIONAL CAMP.
(pre press association.]
Wellington. Jan. 9. Instructional camp in connection with the new Defence scheme commenced on Saturday at Tauherenikau, Wairarapa. All the permanent instructors of the Dominion are present. Colonel Heard is commandant of the camp. They were very fortunate in the selection of a site. It is an ideal spot and sheltered from the prevailing wind by a magnificent belt of native bush. The Tauherenikau river is within a stone's throw, and in front of the camp there ( is a natural parade ground many acres in extent as fiat aa a billiard table. The sanitary and water supply systems are very up-to-date. An aceylene gas plant has been erected, and all mess tents and lecture rooms are lit thereby. Tbe men, for the most part, are a very smart looking lot. Many have thrown up good positions and businesses to embrace a military career. The food is plain but wholesome and all hands are satisfied with the catering.
