SWIMMING.
MEETING OF H.B. CENTRE. The Hawke’s Bay Branch of the I New Zealand Swimming Associa-' tion. held a meeting at the Cale- i (lonian Hotel, Napier, on Saturday ; night, the principal business being ! in connection with the champion ship meeting. It was decided to leave the selection of the Hawke’s Bay representatives for swimming and polo championship meeting with the centre handicappers, Messrs. F. D. McVay and T. S. Roulston. The New Zealand championship meeting is to be held in Wellington on February 4th, Bth and 11th, ano it is expected that Hawke’s Bay will have six or more competitors ;in the shorter events, besides r I strong polo team. Programmes for the meeting are not yet to hand but should before now have been through the different
; centres. t The date fixed for the centre ' sports meetings at Napier and Hast- > ings, are the 16th and 20th instant respectively. The programme for Napier sports ! is an attractive one, including the | Hawke’s Bay championship race of : 100 yards and a banner polo match between the Napier team and Ki Ora. The Hastings programme in ; eludes a test race of 220 yards and a water polo banner match between Hastings and Napier No. 1 team. The Napier Catholic Club is the
latest to apply for affiliation and will, it is hoped, bring a lot of new swimmers to light. Jack McCarthy, the one time 100 vards champion of Hawke’s Bay. has applied to the New Zealand council for reinstatement as an amateur. He is ranked as a professional through competing in foot races under the New Zealand Athletic Union’s control.
