SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING.

The usual monthly meeting of the Port Ahuriri School Committee was held last evening, there being present Messrs. Riddell ■ (chairman), Fahey, Creagh, Rhodes-Williams, Kessel, Captains Anderson, McAlister, and Holland. The headmaster (Mr. AV. G. Martin). reported that the average attendance for the past four weeks was 325 out of a roll immher of 348 pupils. The annual examination for pi emotions was now being held and would be completed in the course of a few davs. The annual distribution of prizes wou.'d lie made bv Mr. AV. He wished the members, on behalf of the school staff, tin* compliments of the season. It was resolved to write to the Education Board urginu- the necessity of erecting a new dividing feme as suggested bv the headmaster. Mrs. Knight's resignation was accented and Mrs. Sayers was appoint etl to fill the position. The matter of carrying out the work of asphalting the playground was left in the hands of the chairman. A vote of thanks was passed io Mr. J. V. Brown. M.P.. for his interest in connection with the increased grant to committees of 9d per head on the average attendance. Messrs. Riddell and Creagh were appointed a visiting committee for ti t* ensuing month and the committee adjourned.
