HOSPITAL CONTRACTS.
(To the Editor.) Sir. -Do you know of any reason why the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board should not call tenders for drapery ! It seems to me that some of the Napier firms must be getting some very nice pickings. Last year tenders were called, specifications to be seen at the Office of the Board. It would have delighted you to have read them. lor instance, they asked for prices for white and coloured bed quilts, but gave no prospective quantities required. Sheeting, etc., likewise. I mentioned the fact to the secretary but he could give me no information as to quantities likely to be required. Then again there was a clause providing that in the event of non-fulfilment of contract within so many hours they kad the right to purchase elsewhere and charge the difference to the contractor. Naturally. on those conditions. T could not tender. How easy it would lie to draw up a schedule of every-day requirements. Say. 3<i pieces 54in. E.T. Findlays White Sheeting. 10 pieces 72in. ditto. 50 dozen lo 4 white honeycombe quilts. 30 dozen coloured ditto, 50 dozen white towels size to be given, i'pair 9 lo t all wool colonial blankets, etc. Traders to submit samples and prices by a given date and the Board to take the goods m two or three deliveries. I let-1 <ure the Board by this me«ns would save money, besides giving ail ti.e drapers the same opportunity. —I am. 11. K. THOMSON. Draper. Hastings. Hastings. Dec. 14. M . .
