A LINER ASHORE. HER PASSENGERS SAVED. Ottawa, Dec. 13. The Alaskan liner Olympia departed from Cordova on Saturday. The after hold was empty and the| stern high the propeller almost useless. A storm sprang up and the vessel was driven on a reef, a great hole being made amidships. Her 126 passengers were saved. It is expected that the vessel will be a total loss. She resembles an iceberg with huge masses of ice sheathing the hull. The chief portion of the cargo was salvaged. The same company’s steamer North Western grounded in Puget Sound recently. A woman aboard the. Olympia was also wrecked then.

MARINE INSURANCE. Sydney, Dec. 13. Advices have been received that the English Underwriters’ Association has resolved to charge refrigerated steamers engaged in the Australian and New Zealand trade extra insurance premiums in order to cover the additional risk owing to the Australian and New Zealand legislation.
