KING’S THEATRE
Every evening and Saturday afternoons.
A big erwod assembled at the King’s Theatre on Saturday night, and a splendid programme was presented. Several excellent dramas were screened, the best of which was “A Child’s Impulse.” This picture was most enthusiastically received. “'Apache Gold” was a stirring . story in a North-American-Indian setting, and was also very good. “ Pathe’s Animated Gazette” contained a series of most interesting views of popular events. The scenic films, “ A Regatta on Meekong ” and “ Shanghai ” left nothing to be desired, and “ Hop Industry ” was instructive and interesting. The comic films were very good, chief ainong them being “A Day in Alick’s Life” and “Jane Follows the Fashion.” THE ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY’S
CONCERT,
The final rehearsal for the forthcoming concert will take place in the Theatre to-night, when all the Napier players have signified their intention of being present. The Society has since their performance in Napier, made many friends and admirers in the sister town, with the result that a number of seats are being reserved for Napier visitors at this concert. The success of building an extra staging so as to bring the players further out into the bodj’ of the hall was so marked at last concert, that the idea will again be adopted at thia ; and all future concerts of the Society. Patrons will oblige by seeing ; that all their reserved seat tickets bear the official stamp of the box office, thus obviating confusion. This concert will be marked as the first occasion on which the fine pair of kettledrums which were imported by Aliss Elsie AVilliams will ba ! used. They are being played by Mr. Cuthbert" Smith, a recent arrival from AA’ellington, where he was a member of the Professional Orchestra. There is probably no other set of similar drums in the Dominion at the present time. The box plan shows unusually heavy booking and great to be taken in this, the Gast concert of a succesful season. “AIR. PREEDY AND THE COUNTESS.” In Auckland at present, the George AVilloughbj’ Co. is making a big hit in “Mr. Preedy and the Countess,” a maelstrom of mirth from the pen of R. C. Carton. The Company plays this new farce at Hastings on Saturday, January 7th next.
