CHRISTCHURCH.
Tuesday, Jan. 10. A diabolical murder took place were yesterday afternoon, by a colored man named Ceclano, footman to the hon. Mr Robimon, During the day the servant maids had been chaffing him about his approaching marriage. He attacked one with a table knife, cutting her severely, but she escaped. He then pursued the other servant into the drawing room, where she stumbled ; he stabbed her to the heart before Mrs Robinson and Mr Campbell, who were present, could prevent him. Cedano was brought up at the Police Court this morning, and remanded till to-morrow. An inquest on the body of Margaret Burkes took place at the Hospital at two o'clock this afternoon. Mary Glynn, the surviving girl, progresses favoral >ly. A large crowd of people congregated in the viciJty of the Police Court and hooted Cedano on being re-conveyed in a cab to the police depot. Mr Cracroft Wilson retires from the contest for Coleridge.
