THAMES.

Saturday, Jan. 7. The Thames Advertiser, through ville and Company, congratulate their Southern contemporaries upon the opening of daily mail communication overland between the Thames and Tanranga, thus enabling them to receive telegrams from all parts, and forming the connecting link with Auckland. The yield of gold for the month of December was 13,086 ozs. from 8,991 tons of quartz crushed, His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh is to visit the Thames on Wednesday next, and will probably take leave of A uckland two days afterwards. The amount of published dividends paid during the month of December is £10,098 amongst twelve companies. This is independent of the large number of dividend paying claims worked under miner's rights, of which no record is kept. The newly appointed Catholic Bishop arrived here yesterday, and was presented with a congratulatory address by his Church. The rumors from Alexandra are alarming, and fifty of the best Riflemen among our Volunteers have offered their, services to the Government for active duty. The latest telegram just received from Alexandra (Friday, nine p.m.), intk mates that the panic is subsiding and all is quiet in Waikato. The Government store at Mercer has been burned down, and 4200 worth of wool, flax, &c, stored there were destroyed. A man named Dunn, living here, has been committed for trial on seven distinct charges of robbery and burglary. A miner named George was j-eriously injured this morning by a fall of about six tons of earth, while working in a drive. He is scarcely expected to survive the injuries.
