Wb clip the following items of intelligence from, late files : Cohomandbl.—Several good finds arc reported from this district. The Thames Vdveriiser, 4th August, says “ the exodus still continues, and is best evidenced by the number of miners' rights being taken out at the office of the Receiver of Gtold fields Revenue, which Ins been larger for the past few days than for a considerable period previous. The following are tne numbers taken out on each ot the last five days, viz. : —July 20, 8 5 ; July 30,54; July 31, 57; August 2, 151; August 3, 05. Kennedy’s BaV. —By the cutters Wa t.erlily and Sovereign ot the Seas we (Mew Zealand Herald, 4th August) learn that very rich quartz reefs have been found at Kennedy’s Bay. A number of men have left Mr Craig’s mill at Wangapoa for the new diggings. The Thames.—lf we may believe what we see in the papers to hand, the mining news from the Thames continues ot a highly encouraging character. The p s Royal Alfred, which arrived at Auckland on the 4th inst., from shot-land, was the dearer of 4,000 ounces of gold. The Value of VTcroitiAN Mines. —The following is from the Argus, LOili July : The mineral statistics for the year 1888 have just been issued by the mining de partment. Some of the information contained in tln-m has already appeared in our columns. The estimated value of all tne mining claims in the Colony on the 3ist December last was £3,080,5 4, and during the year 886,228 tons of quartz were crushed, giving an average yield of lOdwts. 15.37gr5. of gold per ton.
