A woman living at Farnham was walking home a short time ago during a high wind, when she suddenly complained of shortness of breath, and died almost immediately. At the inquest the doctor, in his evidence,, said, "1 found an old disease on the glot« tis Death was caused by a strong bltst of wind, which caused a sudden contraction of the glottis. Had a surgeon been on the spot immediately and cut the windpipe she would have recovered." Alleged Discoveyy of Gold in the Streets of Auckland —The following (save the Southern Cross, 7th May) was left at our office yesterday for insertion; " The wide distribution of gold throughout the various geological strata in ail parts of :he earth is well known. Few, however, would have expected to find it in or nearthe slimy Auckland clay, Nevertheless, the men employed on Thursday digging a a well in the rear of certain premiss in Wakefield-streefc came across many specks of the precious metal in a kind of rottenlooking leader immediately under the first tratum of the clay." ■Kennedy's Bay.—We have news from K nnedy's Bay of another rich find m the shape of a nugget, yielding 21ozs 13d wts 12»rs of gold, which was melted at the Union Bank yesterday. It appears the stone, which weighed 33ozs before crushing, was found by a miner named Charles Morgan, whilst prospecting the creek, about 100 yaids below the Prospectors' Creek, The finders have received £3B 10/- on the piece of stone. Wo are informed by a person who left. Kennedy's Bay a few days ago, that there are now some thirty prospectors at work on the leading spur dividing the creeks, and about twenty men i respecting the creek, where they are find* ing the color, and often something more* —Thames Advertiser, May 9,
