LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.
Another Cask of Deowsiso. —A man engaged as cook on board the schooner Zillah, was accidentally drowned on Saturday night last. He was in the act of boarding the vessel about 11 o’clock in a small boat, and as he neared the side, by some means he was pitched out, and carried away by the stream, and drowned before aid could be rendered. The body has not yet been found, we believe.
Resident Magistrate’s Court. — Ni/cora, a native, surrendered to bail and appeared on Tuesday last, to answer the charge of horse-stealing. The case was adjourned till the following day, for further evidence, when three native witnesses were examined, and agreed in their statements that the horse was brought in for M’Kenzie, for which they received £2. Mr. M’Kenzie, senr., was also examined, and his evidence went to show that he bought the horse for £*3, which he paid, and for which he had a receipt. The Bench said that there was a doubt upon their minds, and they should give (he prisoner the benefit of it, and discharge him.
