ARRIVAL OF THE “QUEEN,” NEWS FROM WELLINGTON
OPENING OF, THE ASSEMBLY. THE GOVERNOR’S SPEECH. TIMES OFFICE, Thursday, July 24. By the arrival of the Queen, Capt. Pole, at noon this d£y, from Wellington, we are able to furnish our readers with the Governor’s speech. The Queen brings a general cargo, 22 head of cattle for Auckladd, and the following passengers : —Capt. Charlton, Miss Ryan, Messrs Lowry, Lovelot, Liston, Hilton, & Mason. Upon nearing her anchorage, she fired a gun, which unfortunately burst, one of the pieces striking the chief mate on the shoulder, inflicting a severe wound. The “White Swan.” —The wreck of this unlucky steam ship at present lying stranded at Uriti Waikaraka, on the East Coast, was sold at the Exchange on Thursday, by Messrs. Bethune and Hunter, for the sum of £ls. The purchaser was Mr. George Moore.
