Thursday, July 17. By tlie Lapwing, which arrived last night, we have received files from Auckland to the 2nd instant. The Victoria was to leave 2 days after the Lapwing. The Messina had arrived from London, after a passage of 167 days. The Governor departed for Wellington on the Ist instant. Coromandel was the chief topic in Auckland, and vessels on the berth were being filled rapidly. Capl. Fernandez informs us that seamen were already demanding <£B per month. Census, 1861.—We have to acknowledge the receipt of census returns for 1861. The European population of New Zealand at the close of the year, exclusively of the military and their families, numbered' nearly 102,000 souls; population of the Northern Islands being 41,641; that of the Southern Island about 60,000.
