WANGANUI CARNIVAL.

[press association.] WANGANUI, Monday. Beautiful weather was experienced for the holidays. The Christmas Carnival was commenced to-day, when a successful military tournament was held. Volunteers were present from all parts of the district, and ales from Palmerston, Wellington and Napier. The Wellington City Guards’ squad carried everything off in the manual and physical exercises, and the Napier City Cadets did likewise in similar exercises for_ cadets. The LloydLjndsay competition was won by the Alexandra Mounted Rifles. The attendance of the public was nearly 4000.
