FOOTBALL.

HAWKE'S BAY UNION. The weekly meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union was held at the Criterion Hotel last evening. Mr E. P. Smyrk was in the chair. The Hastings sub-union submitted the following query for the union’s answer; —“Is the ball dead on striking the goal-post and rebounding into play!” The answer was:—“ No. The call is not dead. and. further, the referee who ordered the ball to be kicked off from the twenty-five flag was altogether wrong.” An application was received from the Marist Brothers’ Old Boys for permission to play a match against Te Aute College next Saturday. The application was granted. On Saturday, a couple of good matches will be played on the Recreation Ground, and the gate takings will be handed over to the caretaker, Mr H. Faulkner. It is hoped that all football, cricket and hockey players and supporters will attend.
