SCENIC AMENITIES.

AUCKLAND, Tuesday. The committee of the Auckland Scenery Conservation Society will meet in order to appoint a deputation of members to meet the Scenery Preservation Commissioners, who are expected here soon. It is the intention of the society to bring under the notice of the commissioners the desirability of -acquiring a very beautiful gully about a mile long on Hunua-road, just beyond Papakura, whio I has been made accessible by a new road. The society will also point, out to the commissioners the desirability of making belter provision for the preservation and maintenance of the kauri forest on the Waitakeiei ranges, situated on the w stern slopes. The question of the magnificent park reserve at Waitakerei which is vested in the City Council will probably also engage the attention of the society. With regard to tree-planting the society will consider what steps are to lie taken to make np for the Iheavy cutting which, is going on, and which is not adequately compensated for by existing measures to replace the timber which has been cut out. Whether the commissioners will visit the spots to he brought under their notice by the society is not yet known, hut all information necessary will be put before then, and the grounds of Auckland’s claim to some portion of the £25,000 per annum which Parliament has voted for four years for the acquisition of scenic reservations.
