WAIPAWA.
[own correspondent.] In Mr Williams’ window is exhibited the beautiful Hunter Shield presented to the Hawke’s Bay Cricket subassociation for annual competition by Mr George Hunter, and lately won by the Waipawa club. Tho first boss shows that Ihe trophy was won last year by the Norsewood club, the secretary of which, in forwarding it to the Waipawa secretary, wrote congratulating the Waipawa club on its success in gaining the coveted shield for tho season, and that without one defeat.
A meeting convened by Mr J. H. Bull, of persons desirous of 'forming a musical society, was held on Tuesday evening. About eighteen were present out of a probable number of forty members. Mr Bull was appointed conductor, Miss Eccleton pianist, Mr J. Peters secretary, Messrs I?. J. Shanly, M. Murray, and W. J. Fellow committee of management. The work to be put into practice is Gaul's “Ruth,” and the practice night is to he Monday night of each week. The orchestra whl comprise about nine performers. The name of the organisation will bo the Waipawa Choral Society. The picnic organised by a committee of young ladies, was held in magnificent weather on Wednesday afternoon. There was a very large attendance of both adults and children, who thorroughly enjoyed themselves in various ways. The band played several selections. The arrangements were very good, and reflected credit upon the executive. A dance was held in the evening.
