LAND BALLOT.

[PBESS ASSOCIATION.] NEW PLYMOUTH .Friday. About 31,000 acres of land in 75 sections in the Ohura county and adjoining localities were applied for to day -t the Crown Lands, and a ballot took place in the courthouse. There were about 450 applicants. Out of 61,000 acres offered m 115 sections, one section had 108 applicants. A large number were present, the courthouse being crowded with a good class of settlers. It is anticipated that the bulk of the remaining sections will be taken up in a few days. The Crown Land Commissioner specially warned speculators to keep out of the ballot, as the board would adopt strenuous measures to keep them Horn trafficking in any land acquired. Bona fide settlers, he said, have every encouragement.
