[OWN OOMHSaPONWtNt.] The fifm of A. Jones and Co., Limited, have purchased from Mr George Hastings the block of land containing half an aero at the rear of their premises in Queen-street The firm intend to build a foundry and a wheelwrighting and painting shop on the newly-acquired land. The concert at the Princess Theatre on Monday evening, given by Miss .Mamie Smith, Miss Tansloy, and tterr Clemens Lehmann, attracted it. gpOd audience. Miss Smith, who made her first appearance in Hastings, delighted her hearers with her recitations—"Marguerite Of France," "Ho-ho, of the Golden Hell,” “Saviour of St. Michael’s” and "Lasca.” Miss Tansley, always a favourite with Hastings people, was encored for her singing of her two numbers, “Douglas Gordon” and “Too Late We Met,” giving as encores “Love Was Once a Little Boy" and “A Necklace of Lbvh’' Herr Lehmann, the violinist, created a great impression by his tendering of a Berceuse by Dauhc and a Fantasia by Sarasate, Mrs Tilleard Natusch, Miss B. Miller, Miss G. Flotcher, Air Armstrong, and Mr Howard each contributed items. The accompaniments were played by Mrs Natusch hird Alias Nation.

A distressing case of suicide occurred here 6n Tuesday. Mr E. A. Robbins, and he appeared to be very much worried as to whether lie could carry on. the business satisfactorily. , H" bad also suffered very much during the last few months from the effects of falls received when riding races, and had complained of pains in bis head. Deceased leaves a wife and three children. An inquest was held in the afternoon, before the Deputy Coroner, Major F. W. Gascoyne, am) the following jury Messrs G. Land (foreman), U. F. Roach, F. Bothell. J. A. I’othan, C. Cunnold, and W. J. White. After hearing the evidence of Mrs Woolley. D. Binnie, Sergeant Smart and Dr Tor,swill,,,a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane, caused by severe illness, was returned.

The liquidator presented a statement of the position of the company, showing n deficiency of £3B 18s 4d. It was resolved that tlie directors contribute 2s 6d per share on shares held by them, in Order to liquidate the liability. The monthly meeting of the Hastings Fire Brigade was held at the station Oil Tuesday evening, Captain Bransch presiding. Accounts amounting to £3 17s on the general account and £1 1 1 2d on the sports account were passed for payment. The secretary was instructed to procure two new lengths of hose for the manual engine. An inspection parade was ordered for Thursday, when tho new hose will be tried.
