HASTINGS.

[own ookrespondeni.] A very pretty wedding was celebrated at the Pukahu Church on Wednesday, the contracting parues being Mr Ivan .Hawkins, third son of Mr W. Hawkins, o! Longlands, and Miss Emma Neilson, third daughter of Mr James Meilson, of Pukahu. The ceremony was performed by the Eev. A. Whyte, of ±lavelock. The bride, who was attended by her two nieces, the Misses Lean, wore a dress of pale blue. The church was beautifully decorated, and was crowded with friends of the happy couple. After partaking of the wedding breakfast at the residence of Mr W. Hawkins, where the presents, which were both numerous and useful, were on view, the bride and bridegroom left on their honeymoon.

The vice-regal party left by the express for Wellington on Thursday morning. The Premier and Miss Seddon journeyed South by the same train. The Drillshed Bazaar was open yesterday afternoon for the benefit of the children. Club-swinging, dumbbell and physical drill exercises were executed at intervanls, and the adults present spent an enjoyable afternoon. The total receipts of the bazaar up to 5 o’clock last evening amounted to £3Ol 10s 6d. In the evening the hall was again crowded, although not so densely as on the previous night. The Hastings Band was in attendance, and played several selections, including the contest pieces, during the evening. The cake walk under the direction of Miss Hartshorn caused great amusement, and various other items kept the crowd thoroughly amused. To-night a promenade concert will be held, when such well-known amateurs as Miss Tansley, Miss Hyde (Wellington), Mr T. Parker, and Mr H. Gregson will contribute items.

Mr C. L. Mackersey, who recently disposed of his Waipukurau property, has purchased from Mr G. P. Donnelly through Messrs C. B. Hoadley and Co. 900 acres of the southern portion of the Turamoe Estate, with Mr Donnelly’s entire milking herd of cows and dairying plant. It is Mr Mackersey’s intention to carry on dairying on an extensive scale.
