EXAMINATION PAPERS.

Sir,—Parents ate glad to read in the papers that intelligent men are finding out what we have known all along—the cruelty and absurdity of some of the questions put on examination papers where self-taught Inspectors men raised from the ranks, have thought more of showing off their own learning than of adding to that of onr children. Even in viva voce examinations Inspectors in their visits to schools have tried their best to puzzle and beviWr the children, and gone the ru-nt way to make dull ones lata sc - h ?° l a " d everything connected therewith. Instead of being taught arithmetic by the multiplication table a seven-year-old child must do its sums by problems, and life becomes a sad problem to the little weary brain. it is to be hoped that common sensa is now to take Ae place of conceit a*d JZj S *?T "fftoration to have, the. good of the children more in view than mere cram and showing off. iJj \-V? 1 dnrin S the « school days that children get educated.
