The Blind Alusical Students, who have been touring the North Island for some time past, will give one of their popular and interesting entertainments in the Theatre Royal on Wednesday, 27th instant. The members of the company were all educated in the Royal Ormond Institute for the Blind, and by their entertainments they enlighten the public as to the marvellous pitch of perfection which the blind can attain. Among the company is Aliss Lizzie Wotton, who, though born blind, matriculated at the age of sixteen. A contralto, she sings with great feeling. She also plays solos on the violin, mandolin, and piano with great skill. Air Charles Bartlett, who sings a good baritone song, is also a first-class flautist and an entertaining comedian, whilst Aliss C. O’Brien, soprano, and pianist, is likewise good in humorous recitations. Air John Tainsh is highly spoken of as a tenor vocalist. Aliss Alaud Bartlett acts as accompanist and chaperone td the blind. The box plan is now open at Howe Bros. The programme is a varied one, and will be published next week. A private hospital for the accommodation of town and country patients has just been opened on the Marine-parade, in that large and suitable building situated between the Municipal Council Chambers and the Courthouse, and formerly occupied by Dr Caro. The hospital will be under the direct supervision and care of Miss Lynlon and Aliss Strachan, two trained and certificated nurses who graduated in their profession at the Wellington Hospital, and since then have had wide Home and colonial experience. The situation of the hospital, facing as it does a broad expanse of the Pacific Ocean, and open to the sea breezes, is an admirable one for an institution of this kind, and the various rooms, in which some eight patients can lie accommodated, are well furnished, bright, cheerful, and spotlessly clean. Country and town patients will find every provision made for their comfort, and, as no special doctor is connected with the establishment, each may have the attendance of his or her own medical man. No doubt the hospital will become a welcome home to. many requiring curative treatment and the pleasant conditions so essential in the various stages of convalescence. A beautiful calendar for 1394 is issued by the AlcCormick Binder Company; be sure you get one from the nearest agent.'
