SMALL-POX OUTBREAK.
(Received January 23, 1.27 a.m.) SYDNEY, Friday. Arrived, 5 p.m.—Westralia, s.s., from Auckland. After inspection the passengers landed. MELBOURNE, Friday. All vessels from New Zealand will be fumigated. Provided no case has occurred during the voyage they will then proceed to the wharf and discharge cargo. Passengers who already have been vaccinated will be allowed to land as soon as the vessel is fumigated, also those who consent to be vaccinated on arrival. Persons declining to comply with these conditions will be detained in quarantine for at least 16 days. The Moeraki, arriving to-morrow, will be the first vessel to receive attention. HOBART, Friday. The Moeraki berthed and discharged cargo, but the passengers were not allowed to land, except two, who had been vaccinated. BRISBANE, Friday. A proclamation declaring New Zealand an infected place is to be issued. CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. No further cases or developments have occurred to day in connection with the small pox outbreak. The health officers are chiefly engaged in settling claims for compensation.
