DANNEVIRKE.

[own correspondent.] At the Police Court this morning a man named Timothy Smith was brought before Mr Angus Mackay, charged with the theft of a cheque of the value of £2, the property of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club. On the application of the police the defendant was remanded till Friday, bail being allowed in two sureties of £ls each. The committee of borough councillors, appointed to consider the, reotgatlisatidn of the municipal staff pret ,6fi Mopday evening, hut nothing of a definite nature was done. The committee adjourned till Thursday evening.
