EXPORT RETURNS. (Received December 24, 1 a.m.) SYDNEY, Wednesday. The exports from Sydney during the last Aveek have been exceptionally heavy, amounting to £1,284,000, including £913,000 worth of wool and £85,000 in gold. STEAMER ASHORE. SYDNEY, Wednesday. A small steamer, the St. George, struck on Seal Rock and was beached. The forehold is full of water. She Avill probably be floated off if the weather keeps fine. A WESTERN AUSTRALIAN LOAN. PERTH, Wednesday. A Loan Bill of £1,000,000 is before the House. The State Treasurer intends to raise the first £500,000 in the Eastern States and expects to give 4 per cent. He considers it would be unwise to approach the Home market at present.
WESTERN AUSTRALIAN RAILWAYS'; LONDON, December 22. The “Pall Mall Gazette” says that despite protests the Western Australian Government appear determined to carry out their objectionable Railway Traffic and Mining Bills. The fact of the Midland Railway Company’s alleged breaches of contract not being dealt with directly by the courts‘or Parliament inclines one to believe that the allegation is exaggerated or unfounded. The paper hopes for the sake of colonial credit that means will be found to prevent an attempt to override by side issues a contract entered into by the Government. SHIPPING. SYDNEY, Wednesday.
