DIOCESAN SYNOD.

Tuesday, September 30. Tne Synod met at 8 p.m. Mr J. B. Fielder moved the second reading of a bill intituled ’’ A Statute to Provide for the Appointment of Diocesan Trustees.” The Synod went into Committee, and the Bill was passed without amendment. The second reading of the bill was made an order of the day for next day. Mr J. B. Bidder moved the second reading of a bill intituled “ A Statute to Make Provision for the Insurance Against Loss or Damage by Fire of all Church Properties.” The Bynod went into Committee. The bill was passed with amendments. The second reading of the bill was made an order of the day for next sitting day. The Eev H. W. Williams moved the first reading of a bill intituled “A Statute to Amend Canon III.” The bill was read a first time.

The Dean of Waiapu moved and Mr P. W. Williams seconded, ‘‘That this Synod desires to place on record its deep regret at losing the valued services of the late Thomas John Wills, William Beilby, Arthur James Cotterill, and William Wood, all members of the Synod at its last session, but who since then have entered into rest. That the Synod requests the president to forward a copy of this resolution to Mrs Wills, Mrs Beilby, Mrs Wood, and Miss Cotterill, with an expression of the Synod’s respectful sympathy with them in their bereavement.”—The motion was carried unanimously, all the members of the Synod standing. Mr T. Tanner moved and the Dean of Waiapu seconded, “ That the Synod cordially supports the resolution passed by ‘ The Bible in Schools ’ committee on the Bth instant, when the Bishop of Waiapu moved, and the Eev. J. A. Asher seconded ‘ That ministers of the various denominations throughout this district be invited to preach sermons in furtherance of Bible teaching in State schools on Snnday, October 26th.’”—After some discussion the motion was carried.

The Synod adjourned at 11 till 4> p.m, next day.

Mr J. B. Fielder to move,—“ That the Synod go into committee to consider the report o{ the Standing Committee.” Mr J. B. Fielder to move.—" 1. That in the opinion of this Synod it is very undesirable that any clergyman licensed to a care of aanls should contest any ■eat tor election as a member of the Honse of "Representatives, or mayor or councillor of any borough. 2. If any licensed clergyman allows himself to be nominated for such eleotion, he should resign his cute to his bishop before such nomination. 3. That it be a recommendation that the next General Synod legislate on this subject." Bev. Olivet Dean to move,—“ That it be respectfully suggested to his Lordship the Bishop that steps be taken to obtain from time to time the services of a missioner to conduct evangelistic services throughout the diocese," Mr J. B. Fielder to move,—“ With reference to the resolutions adopted at the last session of this Synod re baptismal and confirmation registers, new registers having been issued to all parishes and districts in the diocese, be it resolved: That the vicars of ail parishes and parochial districts shall, on or before the Slst January in each year, forward to the registrar of the diooese, on forms supplied to them for that purpose, a true and correct copy of the entries made in the said registers of all baptisms and confirmations during the preceding yew from Ist January to 3lst Pesenfeatj entries M

be filed by the said registrar with the registers of suoh parish or district, which are to be kept in his custody in the strong-room of the diocese.” Sev. H. W. Williams to move,- (1) “ That it is desirable that the following bo added to the standing orders:—* In the election of any committee by ballot any voting paper containing either more or less than the required number of names of either order shall ba rejected as informal with respect to that order.’ ” (2) “ That the Synod go into committee to consider the same.”
