WAIPAWA.
[VEOH ODE OWN OORRKSPONMNS?.] February 24, 1902. Ur. Finch, local health officer, paid us a visit to-day to inspect the proposed source of a water supply tor Waipawa, the stream running out of a corner of the Abbotsford run into the Manganoaka river, five miles from the town. He was accompanied by Messrs J. Williams (chairman of the Town Board) and A. E. dull. He ascertained that it was 175 ft higher than Eose-street, which is about 40ft above the Euataniwha-roud. The supply was very much greatej- than the Gisborne proposed supply. Dr, Finch took some bottles of water for analysis, and also some from the river Waipawa, on which he will in due course report. If such a supply can be accomplished Waipawa will be an ideal place to live in.
A man, who is a stranger to Waipawa, went into Mr Ingleton’s shop this afternoon and helped himself to a sap, requesting the assistant to " put it down to me.” She objected, and requested the return of the cap, when he assaulted her, striking her in the face. He had to bo ejected by outside help, and was afterwards arrested.
