The Danevitke Homing Club’s pigeons undertook their longest fly on Wednesday, when tbe distance between Pahiatua and Dauevirke (22 flying miles) was covered by one of Mr Bartlett’s birds in half an hour, the second bird taking one hour, Several birds were sent to Asburst to be released on Friday morning. At the Borough Council meeting Cr. Thomson moved that Mr Lair, caretaker at tbe reservoir, be granted an increase in salary, bringing it np to £SO per year, on condition that he, or bis appointee, is at the reservoir once a day, and at the water-race at least three times a week, besides attending to previously arranged duties; also that arrangements be made for connecting caretaker's house with the telephone as soon as the exchange is established. The motion was carried.— Captain Drinkwater was appointed fire inspector.—lt was decided to hold a special meeting of tho Council on the 10th instant, for the purpose of considering, among other matters, the question of establishing an abattoir in Danevirke. Tbe local Fire Brigade are about to canvass the town for subscriptions in aid of the demonstration to be hold here in March next. It will send teams to compete at the demonstration. The Weber Dairy Company’s first shipment of hotter has secured the first grade iu the Government stores at Wellington,
