HASTINGS.
[FROM OUK OWN CORRESPONDENT.] May 30,1901. The Loyal Hastings Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U., held a smoke concert in the Oddfellows' Hall this evening, to welcome home the returning troopers, Bros. M'Cormack and Manning. A large number of Napier and Maraekataho Oddfellows also paid fraternal visits, and a very sociable evening was spent, nearly 100 members of the various lodges being present. The special train to convoy the Maoris to New Plymouth en route for Eotorua, will leave Hastings to-morrow (Friday), at 10.10 a.m. The train will bring about 50 natives from Napier, and nearly 200 will join at Hastings. The train will stop at the stations as far as Woodville for the convenience of other natives along the line. Mr A. L. D. Fraser, M.H.R., will accompany the Maoris to Woodville for the purpose of distributing the railway tickets and generally superintending the work of seeing them away. The native mounted corps, which has been appointed as an escort to the Royal party, will leave Waipatu pa probably on Tuesday, an I travel by easy stages overland to Rotorua.
