March 11, 1901. The matron of the County Hospital reports as follows for tho last week:— Twenty-five in-patients, including seven females; seven males and four females were admitted during the week,- five males and one male were discharged; no deaths. Mr John Gollan passed away yesterday morning, congestive pneumonia having sot in early on Saturday morning, but for which his medioal adviser is of opinion that be would have pulled through tho result of his recent accident. Hia remains were interred at Hadley cemetery this afternoon. There was a large attendance of friends and neighbors, including a detachment of members of tho Loyal Abbotsford Lodge of Oddfellows. Tho service was conducted by the Rev. Mr Macdonald, of Waipukurau. Tho Oddfellows’ address was road bv Bro A E. Jull, P.P.G.M. At St. James’ Church, Kaikors, yesterday a harvest thanksgiving service was hold. The church was beautifully decorated for the occasion, liberal donations of fruit and vegetables had been contributed. Tho Rev. W. Swinburn preached in the afternoon from Psalm 126 —6 and 7, and there was a large attendance. Xu the evening Mr Thornton preached to a fail church. Tho fruit and vegetables were forwarded to the hospital to-day.
The local team returned on Saturday night from the annual fire brigade demonstration at Christchurch. They expressed great satisfaction with their trip, and the way in which they had been received.
