TIENTSIN CITADEL RECAPTURED.
HEAVY FIGHTING. FIVE HUNDRED REBELS KILLED. DASHING ATTACK BY THE ALLIES. DEFENDERS RESIST DETERMINEDLY. ACCURATE MARKSMANSHIP. BIG CASUALTY LIST. Bocoivod Jul; 18, 1.8 a.m. HoNa Kong, July 16. The allies, chiefly comprising Japanese and Americans, ejected the enemy and their guns westward of Tientsin settlement, the British Chinese escorting the guns, and behaving splendidly. The British, French, and Japanese troops, each composed of 100 men, defended the station on the 11th, killing 600. The casualties 'amongst the British were 19. The othere were heavier. A destructive fire was maintained from the reoceupied citadel in the native city, Tientsin, which compelled the allies to attack on Friday. The Russians were on the light flank, with the American 9th Infantry and marines on the left. Troops belonging to the Shantung army joined the rebels in the eastern camp, participating in the fight. The defenders of the citadel, belonging to the Imperial troops, fought desperately. 1 heir markmanship was deadly accurate. The killed amongst the allies were us follows : — RcssiaDß 100 Japanese , , 60 British 40 Americans 30 French 25 The Russian killed inoluded a colonel of artillery, and Japan lost & colonel, whilst an American colonel and captain were also amongst the killed. The fighting lasted all day. Finally the allies, under a Japanese commandant, recaptured the oitadel and town.
