Sir Wilfrid Laurier declined to introduce Asiatic immigration law on similar lines to the Natal Act, preventing an influx of Japanese in British Columbia, owing to the possibility of jeopardising the friendship between Japan and Britain when Britain is at war, and the possibility of complications with China at any moment.
