JUNIOE REPRESENTATIVE MATCH The Hawke's Bay junior representatives defeated the Wairarapa juniors by 11 points to 4 at Farndon Park on Saturday. The weather was perfect for the match, the fine day attracting numerous visitors to the ground. Wairarapa had a very considerable advantage in weight, their team being over a Btone heavier all round than their opponents, and they took the field decided favorites. Contrary to expectations the visitors were beaten, They did not seem to be I able to make headway in the first spell against the good passing and fast forward play of the locals, though they had a bit the best of the play in the second half. They were better than Hawke'a Bay in the loose, whilst their weight enabled them to carry the scrums. The first score was the result of a very useful piece of passing, King sending the ball to Nicholson, and the latter to Martin, who made a long run for the line, getting over. Jago took the kick, but failed to convert. There was no further score in this spell, but soon after the opening of the second half Falvey secured a try, as the result of some good play on the part of the local forwards. Jago converted. Hawke's Bay 6, Wairarapa nil. Hawke's Bay were forced twice after this, but the backs relieved, and a fluke favored Graham, who, following up smartly, managed to beat Tellwood for the ball. Jago's kick was nearly successful, the ball just striking the jar. Wairarapa then woke up, and tried hard to score, hemming Hawke's Bay down in their territory for some time. What looked like a try was given a knock-on, and a second attempt was disallowed for off-side play. A mark enabled Ahipene to kick a goal. Hawke's Bay 11, Wairarapa 4. Strenuous efforts on the part of the visitors to score proved fruitless, and no-Bide was called with the ball in dangerous proximity to the local line. Had Waiiarapa played with the same determination at the commencement as they did towards the finish the game might have been made much more interesting. Hawke's Bay juniors, though light, were very fast, and their pace aided them a great deal. A few heavier men in the scrum, too, would have made a lot of difference, for the youngsters could scarcely stand tip against the heavyweights opposed to them. The game on the whole was interesting, though the play of the visitors in regard to passing and ECrum work left a lot of- room for improvement. They did very little passing at all, whilst the speedy forwards amongst their opponents gave the backs much trouble. Amongst the visitors Tellwood had a lot to do at full-back, and often relieved his team. The Rogers, Cook, and Macguire were good on the defence, but they did not play well into each other's hands. Ahipene, a 13-stone forward, was of great use in that division, though seven-atone Jago was plucky enough to grass him occasionally. Mitchell, Hart, Roydhouse, and Armstrong worked hard also. The local team had a very reliable full-baok in B. .Franklin. Marsin and Nicholson both played excellently at three-quarters, and Russell gave good support, though he was given few chances. King wbb the hero of the match, playing with considerable dash, and placed alongside Wood in the senior representatives would be a decided acquisition to those ranks. Jago, tiny as he was, played with the heart of a lion. Cunningham, before he was knocked out, did well, and he was replaced by Eddy. Falvey, Munro, Graham, Mullaney, aud M'Carthy were prominent amongst the forwards who, by the way, all upheld the honors of the distriot very well. Mr Renouf had charge of the whistle, and gave general satisfaction.
