HOW FAEQUHAII DIED.
Mrs Brown gave evidence that she witnessed the row in the yard, She saw Erwin strike another man with his fist in the face. The man was lying down, and did not offer any resistance beyond calling out " Don't." John Tarr, who occupied a room in Erwin's house, said lie wont to bed late on Saturday night, and was aroused by Mrs Erwin, who said Farquhar was dead or dying. Mrs Erwin boiled the kettle, and was washing Farquhar's face when he died. Erwin sat in a chair looking on, and Mrs Erwin called him " Murderer." Erwin rotorled that ho never touched Farquhar, and that he foil down. Witness had been drinking, but was not drunk, lie thought Krwin nncl his wifo wore sober Fiirqubar was 11 man of quiet domoanour, and ho had novur previously hoard a row between him and Erwiu. Sharkoy, another boarder, said whou ho wont homo Erwin told him Farquhar was drunk, and had fallen down. Two othor neighbors dopoaod to having hoard a row in Erwin's house on Saturday night, and when it coased groans wero hoard. Tho evidence of the police showod that the Erwins made somowhat contradictory statements about tho affair. When charged with niuvdor Erwin said ho did not know anything about it at all. Mrs Erwin declared she knew nothing about the cause of Farquhar's death, as she was absent from the house for a considerable time,
