HAVELOCK.

[prom our own correspondent.] May 5, 1899.

A rather nasty accident happened this afternoon to a horse and trap going to Waimarama. After crossing the Tuki Tuki river the road is pretty steep, along the zigzag siding, Here the turn-out, driven by a Maori boy, came to grief. The horse started backing, and went oveis the siding. The boy managed to jump off just in time to save his neok, but the horse and trap tumbled oyer and over together, The trap was smashed to pieces and the horse badly injured. New buildings continue to spring up in and around this township. No less than six naw houses are now in courso»o£ creation, with more to follow. * Mr Roderick M'Leod, who is well known in Hawke's Bay, went to "New Australia" with the pioneers. He after the split-up stuck to land, and went and helped settle Cosmo Colony. After being .there for four years he is on his way to New Zealand on a twelve months' leave of absence. We shall doubtless hear from him in reference to the success of the movement during his stay. I noticed the walking man passing through Havelock the other day, but he was occupying a seat on the Advance bus, I thought it a bit funny.
