A GIRL'S ANTICS.
SWALLOWS PINS, NEEDLES, &a.
[by telegbaph.] Auckland, Friday.
A fire broke out in the Door of Hope last night in the locked bedroom of a girl named Alma Hansen, from Wellington. The fire was suppressed and the girl disappeared from the home. She was found wandering abont the streets and arrested on a oharge of lunacy. She was discovered in the cell grinding her teeth as though in a fit, and refused to answer questions. The police matron found in her mouth a quantity of pins, broken needles, tacks, and nails, and she told Sergeant Forbes she had swallowed some of the pins. Dr. fharman examined her, and ordered "her to the hospital. She told the police she had collected the pins, &0., at the Door of Hope and carried them in her mouth for two days. The girl appeared quite rational when admitted to the hospital. Her condition to-day is the same as last evening. She was brought from Wellington by the Salvation Army, but left their institution, and also left the Door of Hope, but waß returned by the police to the institution.
