DANVIRKE.

[PKeir our own correspondent.] January 25, 1899. At the Presbyterian meeting held this evening the following report waa presented, showing an increase in membership of 19, it having risen from 57. A weekly, prayer meeting had been started 3ince the induction of the Rev. E. Eldridge, and the thanks of the Session were extended to Mr E. A. Earisom and his assistants for their untiring and successful efforts in connection with the Sundayschool. Under Mr H. E. Grainger the Band of Hope had prospered exceedingly, and the choir was doing well, the visits of Mr Benaud having been greatly appreciated. They had, too, proved highly beneficial. Mr Ham had resigned the conductorship under pressure of business, and had been succeeded by Rev. E. Eldridge. The annual soiree had been very successful, and 217 pastoral visita made since the arrival of the Eev. B. Eldridge. The balance-sheet showed receipts amounting to £235 3s Od and expenditure totalling .£223 17s, there being a 'balance at bank of ill Os 6d on 31st December, 1898. A manse site had been purchased for ,£145, and donations totalled .£l5O 13s. The surplus of assets over liabilities was £7rS 2s 7d. • The average attendance at Sunday-school was 100 out of a roll of 130, and there were 130 books in the library. Altogether the reports showed the church to be in a very flourishing position, the collections and subscriptions having been increased by .£46 odd from all sources. The practioal interest of the Eev. A. Grant, of Waipukurau, in the affairs of the congregation were noticed, and thanks accorded him for his invaluable counsel and advice. , The first marriage in the Waikopiro was celebrated to-day by Eev. Fathei M'Grath, Mr Smith and Miss Baker being joined in wedlock. The formation of a Caledonian Society is on the tapis at Ormondville. The Government auditor was at Ormondville yesterday, and was delighted with the beautiful order into which Mr Callender, the new clerk, had got things, He took occasion to compliment him upon this, and referred in terms of high praise to the large amount of work which this had necessitated.
