The Education Board was waited upon this afternoon by the Nowtown school committee, who urged the Board to reconsider its determination to place Mr Gill of Hokitika in charge of the school in preference of Mr Barry, first assistant. The chairman of the Board said the system of promoting assistants to bo head teachers of schools in which they had worked as assistants had not worked well in Otago, and he felt tliat if it were adopted here it would also work unsatisfactorily. Eventually the Board decided to adhere to its determination to place Mr (Jill in oharge of the school. In the Divorce Court a decree nisi was granted in a case in which William Henry Fielder, a cleric, sued for divorce from bis wife on the grounds of adultery.
