THE PACIFIC CABLE.
(PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION. — COPYBIGHT.) Received October 13, 10,16 a.m. Sydney, Thursday. The Daily Telegraph, in a leading article advocating early action with regard to the Pacific cable, saye the Canadian-Pacific proposal does not represent the only possible duplication. The paper adds that the annexation of the Sandwich Islands by America make the junction of that group with America a necessity, and it is certain that Congress will shortly sanction the establishment of a cable with it. This would give Australasia an alternative possibility and would have the advantage of being 3000 miles Bhorter than the Canadian-Pacific scheme. The argument that' the cable would not be all under one flag (the Telegraph says) is not so strong as it once was, and. the chances of hostile relations between the two countries are too small to outweigh the advantage. It considers the occasion favorable for considering the Hawaiian route as an integral portion of the Australasian Pacific cable.
