From Spit Fire Brigade, aiklog that Sab-inperlntendent Wllkle be appointed ' fire Inspector.— Reierred to Public Works Committee. From several residents of Roslyn-road, drawing attention to an open drain for storm water sltnate between the comer of Mr Lv Btia'e section and Mr Ballook's front gate, Every time It rained all the properties below it were flooded, and land and mud in large quantities beoame deposited on tbe properties of the petitioners.—Kef erred to the Pabllo Works Commlttmo; roads oommlttee to impact and report. From the Municipal Aasoolatlon, asking the Council to appoint a delegate for tbe next oonferenoe. — Referred to the Pnb'io Woiku Committee, OVERSEER'S RECOMMENDATIONS. Tbe overseer recommended :— 1. That the gate at the Botanical Gardens be altered to correspond to tho oomotery ontranoo, and that the lower gatei la Spencerroad be altered and steps pntj down. 2. That the cage where the animals are kept be put into thorough repair, and the woodwork painted. and when fib be tarred, as at present the sand washes off and blocks up the Spenoor-road Rate. i ii That the spare fountain stand plpo In stook be fixed in the gardensi Deferred to Dome ins Committee. THE SPIT BRIDGE. The oveneer reoommended : — That the Fp'lt or Iron Pod bridge be re" paired. It requires one new stringer and bed plate to reoelve the braoea and handrail. as the eld one Is completely rotten and dangerous. I repaired the worst parts last week. I also beg to recommend that nottoe boards be put up oautioning drivers that the bridge la not safe for more thtn 2J tons. I have been Informed that seven tons have been on the bridge at one time. Referred to Pabllo Woiks Committee. WATERWORKS COMMITTEE'S REPORT. The Waterworks Committee made the following recommendations :— li Lite Fire at the Spit,— After the most careful Inquiry youroommlttea are of opinion that tho hitch in the water supply was acoidental, and that no one is to blame for it Some doubt, however, appears to exißti as to the power of the superintendents of fire brigades to deal with the valves at fires, and your committee would therefore reoommerd that the* bo notified that they have full power to deal with the valves as they think flfc. You committee would also further reoommend the construction of a 61n main from Messrs Robjohns' corner to Mr F. G, Smith's bond. 2 Bnrat Fire Ping, Algar's Premißes.Jfrom the ovldenoe given before them your oommlttee are of opinion that the damage to Mr Algar's premises waa undoubtedly oansed by the rash of water from the pumps being workod whilst tho fire plug at Faulknor's lane ' was being repaired; they have therefore, to prevent the possible recurrence of any similar acoident in future, given instructions to ceaßO pumping whenever the tumping main Is undergoing repairs. 3. Waterworks Plant to be Ordered.-Your onmmittee recommend that the waterworks plant, as per list atctohed marked A, be ordered from England forthwith! —Adopted, MISCELLANEOUS, Vouchers amounting to £66 13i lOd wete passed for payment, and also £24 4s, dnty on water supply plant. Cr, Cohen was granted leave of abienoe for the meeting, In reply to Cr. Smith, the Mayor said the question of a road round tua breakwater wai brought D p at tbe Harbor Board meeting, and the eogineer wat imtrnobed to take certain action. He hoped to be able to report natlsfaotorily to the nest meeting of the Connoil. The Council then ad jonrned.
