THE PREMIER ON ENGINEERING.
Wellington, Tuesday, The .Hon. Mr Beddon to-day made a presentation of badges to members of tbe Institute of Marine Engineers. He referred to the credit dne to the engineers for tbe manner in which they oarrled out their duties, and regretted patents did not bave their children taught trades, Instead of making them olerks. He had sprung from tbe ranks of tbe engineers, and was prond of it. To bim it was pleasW to see anon oonfidenoe exlitlng amongst owners, Inipectoie, and engineers, aid tbe general public, and ho ttnsted it would long continue. The Piemler added that he deilred to see the institute bestow badges only on those deserving it from meritorious work, and In tbls way they 'would ba appreciated st tbelr proper merit, lie said he would like to ccc tbe land engineers federated tbe same as the maiine engineers, and referred to the oordlal manner in which be had been rteelved as representative of tbe colonial engineers by the engineers in England.
