In the negotiations between the miners now on strike in South Wales and the colliery proprietors, the latter insisted that the miners' delegates to the proposed conference should be armed with full powers to sanction an agreement that the men Bhould accept, the now sliding scale. A ballot amongst the miners upon these questions resulted in a majority of 54,110 against investing their delegates with powers to accept terms, and 33,620 against the 2167 sliding scale.
