Jobneon baa been aentonced to alx months' Imprisonment, the Judge anting on the strong reoommendation of meroy on the ground that the prisoner received great provocation from Lateen, A small iclentlfio expedition, under the leadership of Professor David, of Sydney University, hai left for Fnna Fatl Island, In the Paolfio, to continue the work of the expedition tent out feat year by the Royal Soolety ot London, under Professor Sollas, to ascertain the formation of coral atolls. The prevloas expedition failed, chiefly owing to the Inefficiency of the tiorinK apparatus. The oosti of the expedition will be mainly borne by private sub•orlptlonß, the London soolety giving £200. The New Sooth Wolob Government has supplied powerful boring plant and the aolentlat's tervices free. (Received Juno 3, 0.30 p.m.) Batter's trial has been fixed for Jnne Mtb. A special panel of 60 jurymen haa : beea summoned.
