THURSDAY, JUNE 3RD. Proient: the Mayor, Crs. Bellby, Beeornft, Oroaee, DenuetD, Mnrdoco, and Llnnoy. ROAD OVERSEER'S itEFORT. The overseer repotted that the work authorised last month was all In hand and some completed, Including the naming ot the streets on the sheet lamps and buildIngi, Bed planting of poplars on the banks of Southland drain. MaraekakahO'toad culvert.— He recommended that (he (Jonnty Connotl should be aeked to contribute to the CD«t of the new oalvert.— Agreed to. Matter* in reference to the Southland main drain were referred td the Drainage Committee, With the recommendation that a strip of land on eaoh side of the drain to the width of 12 feet nhonld be taken over by the Connoil. SLAUGHTERHOUSES. The inspector reported that all the houses under his supervision were dean and satisfactory. Animals, slaughtered during the past month-45 cattle, 301 aheep, 19 pigs.— Received, CORRESPONDENCE, The following correspondence was dealt with:— From D. Guy. forwarding plan of a section for Council's approval,— Caunoll declined to pass the plan owing to the road nob being snffiolently wide. From borough solicitor, as to the taking over of QaeenVeqaaro by the Connoil, find forwarding trust deeds to be signed,— Referred to committee, From W. White, re Btreet oontraot, agreeing to continue bis contraot, and asking for bonus owing to extra work caneed by the floods. —Will be dealt with when the contraob expires, From Auditor- Uenerol, certifying to correctness of Council's last balance sheet.— Received. From W. K. White, secretary Hawke's Bay River Board, thanking Conncll for £50 voted towards preliminary expenses. - Reoelved. From P. Palmer, agreeing to transfer his slaughtering license to A. Dillon.— Agreed tn. From W. Nelson, asking permission to connect with the main sewer,— Granted. From R, Wollwood, resigning his seat on the Council, owing to an illegality as to his registration on bnrgeas roll, and applying that the defect might) be remedied— JKeoelved with regret, but he could not bo legally put on till September, as the bnrgees list had been tlgned. From Debating Soolety.f nnklng for use of Connoil Chambers in which to hold their meetings.— Mr Croste gave notioe of motion tbut the lost decision of the Connoil on this matter be reconsidered, and it will be dealt with at a special meeting of the Council. MISCELLANEOUS, Cr, Beeoroft's motion that the borough be divided Into wards waa withdrawn. An acoonnt of £12, due to MrGllberd for fire CDglne brake, waa pasßed. The question of commemorating the Qaeen'c jubilee wao diaonesed in committee. It was resolved that the jubilee should be oommemorated by getting the Hastings volnnteert, headed by the band, to march to QtieenVsquaro, and tbete to Gre a Royal salute, the school children to sing the National Anthem ; after which the Mayor will plant) nn oak tree and formally receive possession of Queen'siquare an behalf of the citizens of HastlDgs. The Council then adjourned.
